What is 2D Shop Drawing?
Apart from drawings for building constructions, Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software can also be used to generate shop drawings for prefabricated components like trusses, elevators, windows, cabinets, ductwork, plumbing, piping, HVAC, equipment which are produced by the contractor, supplier, manufacturer, fabricator or sub-contractors in the Architectural, Structural and MEP (Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing) disciplines. Shop Drawings help to visualize the information shown in construction documents, to help explain the fabrication and installation of the manufactured product.
What are the Benefits of 2D Shop Drawing?
Shop drawings display detailed information of the final product such as the dimension of the product, therefore it is vital that the measurements are precise which can be obtained by using CAD software.
Apart from designing the product with high precision, CAD software could be used as documentation for the drawings, which helps in providing solutions for guidance and reference when problems arise.
Before assembly of the finalized product, Manufacturers and Contractors would have to ensure that the components such as screws and nuts required are accounted for in the shop drawings.
